Boarded Up

In Amsterdam's East India neighbourhood, several buildings are to be demolished to make way for urban renewal. Steef Meyknecht follows the inhabitants from the moment when the city council gives them notice to leave. The inhabitants slowly realise that they shall have to leave their homes for good. As time goes by one after the other gives up the resistance and moves to other places. Until demolition their homes are taken by temporary residents. They have no rights, no residence permit and not the same emotional ties with the houses like the original residents had. Meanwhile several residents develop from at first sight dull people into intriguing and conflicting characters. What happened between the walls will not be destroyed by the demolition. Steef Meyknecht's camera captures their lives before they leave with their memories.
